PUSHING POLITICAL AGENDAS

For months now Board Members Lawson, Dziesinski, Costain, and MacArthur have spent their meeting time bending over backwards and tying themselves into knots to justify why they have denied our students an outdoor education opportunity that would cost the district nothing, awarded a contract to a company that did not submit the lowest bid for work, micromanaging the work of school staff, and pushed to adopt a new bathroom policy that would designate which bathroom students must use, according to their birth certificate.

 

Not only would such a rule be impossible to enforce, the Board members have admitted that there have been NO PROBLEMS and NO COMPLAINTS from any parent or student about the current bathroom situation at APS. This is pure fiction made up by four board members with a political agenda.

 

The Board of Education members have been told overwhelmingly by people testifying in public at the board meetings that the community does NOT want this type of policy adopted and the Board should drop it and get on with the business of supporting our public school students.

Their own Superintendent, dozens of staff, parents  and caregivers both in-person and through letters have come forward at the board meetings to point out that this type of a policy is not needed and that it would only create problems. Even the High School Student Council members attended to ask the board to stop pushing this policy that would only create problems where there are none.

 

The Board's own law firm confirmed that this policy, is bad. It is invasive to all students, and it is a direct violation of the civil rights laws of Michigan.

So, what have Dziesinski, Lawson, Costain, and MacArther done?  Ignored and belittled parents, ignored students, ignored staff, and ignored the districts law firm, and instead they continued to pursue the policy, wasting our tax dollars by pushing to hire an extremist and unqualified lawyer that has agreed to pursue a law suit to enact the policy they are determined to put in place, despite widespread opposition by the Alpena community.

 

Most recently, they've partnered with political groups and invited agitators from outside the community to attend board meetings and create a circus atmosphere. They are an out-of-control board, bent on destroying our public schools for their personal political agendas.

Sound outrageous?  It is. School Board Members are supposed to be non-partisan and work to support students at our schools. Wondering why these new Board Members are not working on actual issues facing our schools and supporting our students with educational opportunities and instead are making up fake issues to support their political agendas on our taxpayer dime?
